Mythos & Moses

I've just gotten back from my work friend Maria's birthday. While everyone else in Montreal was at the U2 concert tonight, we were at the Greek restaurant Mythos wining, dining and dancing. I had the stuffed squid with rice and veggies. The squid was overcooked and the vegetables kinda disappointing, but overall it tasted great! 3 1/2 stars for food and 4 1/2 food ambiance (I'd have given a 4 if the price-point matched the food quality and it would've been 5 for ambiance had I not been mauled by a drunken Mediterranean man) That said, I really had a great time, lots of laughs :P

I also have to get this off my chest: I am completely head over heels for Lee Moses. He is a soul singer and his album  'Time and Place' is one of the greatest musical revelations of my life! He is so amazing! If you like anything by Otis Redding you will wonder why the fuck you've been missing out on this guy. He has a few kick-ass ballads that I can't believe didn't get more recognition, and some uptempo stuff that (with better recording) could have easily made it to the top of the charts.

It's unfortunate that Moses died without (still without) the attention he deserves. Although, I have to say his one and only album pretty much does it all! He even covered The Mamas & The Papas' 'California Dreaming', Jimmy Hendrix's 'Hey Joe' and an instrumental version of 'Day Tripper' by the Beatles. All songs impossible to cover successfully, Moses more than pulls it off. And, his song, 'Free At Last' could very well be the perfect song for a campaign announcing the end of 'Don't Ask Don't Tell' and the legalization of gay marriage in the U.S. Some of my favorite songs include the ballad 'Adorable One' and the upbeat Bad Girl (Parts 1 &2). The recording is gritty but I think that only gives it an edge.

From what I've read online, Lee Moses' 'Time And Place' album is the 'Holy Grail' of soul record collectors. It was very hard to find online and very expensive. I found one seller on Ebay selling for $100. Yikes. I'm praying that I come across it at some random flee market or garage sale (fingers crossed!).
